In Opal Soul, it's apparent we've all naturally done a lot of growth. After reassembling over half of our band members, our sound has become more cohesive, and so the songs were able to develop a lot more. I'm in a totally different songwriting universe right now than I was when I was writing Rose Gold. I'm heavily inspired by world music and neo-soul. With the addition of a horn section, and the incredible music community in the greater Detroit area, we were able to add so many different textures and colors to the production.

That uplifting musical path soars to the sky-high auditory intersection of jazz, disco, rock, funk, soul and R&B – think Stevie Wonder, Nile Rodgers, George Benson, Sade and Toro y Moi combining their signature styles into an atmospheric sound.

Patients battling pain, cancer and other ailments can watch Honey Monsoon’s live, intimate performance in Om of Medicine’s colorfully decorated front lounge and momentarily escape from their health struggles. They also can watch the show through live video streaming via Om of Medicine’s Facebook page.

Gomulka says Honey Monsoon draws its largest crowds in Ypsi, a sign of its "homegrown support." Because of that support, she thinks it's even easier for musicians to express themselves. She says there’s a lot of talk about collaboration to form a stronger music community that will benefit every band.
